Trichet: Econ Slowdown To Be Protracted
ECB President Jean−Claude Trichet Thursday warned of a protracted economic slowdown while outlining the thinking behind the central bank's largest−ever interest rate cut. Inflation risks are diminishing and monetary data are also slowing significantly, he said, adding that sluggish domestic demand in the 15−nation euro area would be persistent.

BoE Cuts Bank Rate To 2.0% From 3.0%
The Bank of England slashed the U.K. Bank rate Thursday by 100 basis points to 2.0% in a dramatic attempt to buoy up the ailing U.K. economy. The last time the BOE's key rate was cut to this level was in October 1939.

Forex Markets Steady after Rate Cuts from ECB and BoE by ActionForex.com
The forex markets remain rather steady after massive rate cuts from ECB and BoE. Dollar index climbs to 87.68 earlier today but fails to sustain gain and retreats in early US session. Euro remains mixed despite the largest than expected rate cut from ECB, with EUR/USD recovering from earlier dip. Sterling recovers mildly but remains generally pressured across the board. Though, stocks's lower open might give risk aversion and the Japanese yen a mild boost.
